I used to love receiving postcards as a kid. Knowing that someone took the time to pick out a postcard, write a message, and then mail it, was always exciting to me. It wasn’t just a letter, it was a statement that the person took the time out of their own vacation to perform that act. The postcard carried a basic human connection in its tiny frame.
I grew up in a small town, and I always dreamed of traveling the world. I would go to our local library and borrow travel books and VHS tapes about exotic places. I think that’s why I joined the Navy; “See the World” used to be it’s slogan when I was of recruiting age!
And there’s the fact that I am a Sagittarius. That has a lot to do with it. It’s always been in my DNA.
That’s why Fernweh is a fitting place from which to situate this blog. Some people long for the next adventure, the next unique destination, the next amazing meal, the next language to be learned. That’s me.
For the past five years, I wrote another blog that detailed our escapades totally refitting a sailboat from stem to stern, and then setting off in search of adventure.
My family and I loved the sailing life, but we were called back to shore for a variety of reasons. We now live in Europe, and travel extensively. We want to share our adventures with you!
We love the good things in life: good wine, good beer, good food, good friends, good music, good books… and they all add up to good times!
